The Book & Picture Ledge
Choosing your wood.
Oak is warm with an open grain. Ash is paler and brighter, with a clean, Scandinavian feel. Walnut is the richest and darkest, with deep chocolate tones. All are solid, sustainably sourced hardwoods — the choice is about the look you want.

Care
Dust with a dry or barely-damp cloth — never soaking wet. Keep out of direct sunlight and off direct heat, and wipe spills straight away so they don't sit and mark. Re-oil once a year with Fiddes hard wax oil to refresh the finish.
Real wood — grain and colour vary from piece to piece, and solid timber shifts a little with the seasons. That's character, not a fault.
